Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences
The McGill University's Faculty of Dentistry project aimed to relocate its facilities to the FPI Cominar building located at 2001 McGill College Avenue, a 24-story building constructed in 1982, positioned at the doorstep of the McGill University campus. The new spaces for the Faculty of Dentistry occupy four floors, including the basement, N1, N2, and N5, which will be leased for 20 years.
An initial concept was developed by the architectural firm DFS. The concept was further refined by NFOE, which prepared the construction documents and provided architectural services to the building owner, Cominar, during the construction phase. The project was executed in multiple phases, adhering to a tight schedule. Demolition, construction, and the relocation of facilities were carried out within an occupied building that remained operational throughout the project.
This project consolidates various departments of the dentistry faculty into a single centralized location. The teaching and training clinic facilities are on levels N1 and N2, connected by a central staircase. The layout incorporates new equipment and furnishings, combining multiple activities and services under one roof. These new spaces unite undergraduate and graduate students and clinical training within state-of-the-art facilities. The laundry area is situated on basement level 1, alongside mechanical spaces. Research activities for graduate programs are located on N5 and are designed to foster collaboration.
