Biodôme Renewal - Architecture design competition
Espace pour la vie announced an international architecture competition to renew the Montreal Biodome. The collaborative project, in partnership with Coll-Leclerc and Cloud 9, presented a striking architectural concept: a suspended Cloud that serves as an immersive centerpiece. This Cloud enables various natural phenomena like snow, fog, rain, waterfalls, and rainbows within each ecosystem while offering new pathways for visitors. These elevated lightweight structures connect the Cloud to the different ecosystems, allowing exploration from a higher vantage point without disrupting the natural ambiance. Accessible via an open staircase, the Cloud also serves as an interactive platform showcasing climate change causes through color shifts. The experience culminates in a migration-themed encounter. The surrounding public space embraces urban agriculture, electric mobility, and activism, with the reception area transformed into a transparent Living Lab. This innovative space communicates building technology and Biodome's evolution, displaying energy data and biodiversity maps and embracing the principles of the third industrial revolution.
