Veterinary diagnostics and epidemilogical surveillance complex
The construction of the new veterinary diagnostics and épidémiosurveillance complex (Veterinary diagnostic and épidémiosurveillance - CDVE) in Saint-Hyacinthe aligns with the broader objectives of the National Institute for Animal Health, which include streamlining the laboratory network and ensuring adherence to biosecurity standards.
Situated on the existing MAPAQ site, the complex integrates the current diagnostic functions of the CDVE laboratory with the clinical and diagnostic necropsy activities of the faculty of veterinary medicine at the University of Montreal. Spanning a total area of 7,100 square meters, the facility's core mission encompasses providing expertise in animal health and veterinary diagnostic laboratory services, swiftly detecting emerging diseases and potentially zoonotic infections, and taking responsive measures in cases of agrobioterrorism.
To fulfill environmental goals, various strategies were employed, including optimal site selection, promoting carpooling to minimize parking requirements, preserving over 36% of the site for green spaces, rainwater harvesting, mitigating heat islands, reducing light pollution, employing water-efficient landscape design, utilizing ozone-friendly materials, executing a construction waste management plan, and prioritizing the use of locally sourced materials.
