Saint-Benoît school
This project for CSDM involves a two-story school expansion, including the addition of 10 elementary classrooms, a resource room, an activity room, a library, a multipurpose hall, storage rooms, a new staircase, and an elevator. The existing portion adjacent to the expansion has been redesigned and includes restrooms, changing rooms, storage rooms, resource rooms, and electromechanical areas.
Since the expansion was a separate block, isolating it from the existing structure was straightforward. The challenge was to create a temporary entrance to the construction site through one of the windows of the existing building, as well as an access hatch to the existing crawl space. Due to the site's constraints, no temporary installations were possible. The existing restroom block in the northernmost part provided a buffer zone between the school and the expansion, allowing for the installation of the contractor's temporary offices and warehouse. To manage interventions in the existing building, NFOE primarily focused on communication and maintaining good relations with the school's principal and staff. The construction occurred in an occupied environment and was separated into phases. The most invasive work was scheduled during pedagogical days.
"The expansion of École Saint-Benoît is simply magnificent! Modern and bright, this addition improves the students' living environment while enhancing their learning and academic success" - Chantal Jorg, School Commissioner for Cartierville-Ahuntsic-Ouest.
